ISIS could use drones to drop bombs or nuclear wastes on Britain

Security experts have cautioned that ISIS could launch attacks on Britain by using drones to drop bombs of nuclear wastes or poison bombs over Britain because they have already done it in Iraq and Syria. UK officials are believed to have come across evidence that the terror group is flying armed commercial drones over Syria and Iraq.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 28 July 2016.
It seems the militants have deployed small drones carrying explosives to blow up troops and made use of spy cameras on drones to map out army positions. Hence, there are fears that lone-wolf jihadists could use drones to spray deadly nuclear waste over British cities or blow up civilians on the streets.
Moreover, the drones or pilotless flying machines posed a 'direct threat' to Western troops on the ground in Iraq, including British troops and these can be purchased easily on websites such as Amazon and delivered to doors in Britain. The terror group could easily purchase drones in Britain and insert a small explosive on them to kill a handful of people or even chemical weapons to inflict mass casualty damage. There is, therefore, a need to to have tougher regulations on commercial drones in Britain to ensure safety of the people.

ISIS carries out suicide bombing in Qamishli - death toll at least 44

At least 44 persons have been killed in a massive bomb blast in Qamishli and has injured dozens in Syria - it was an attack by the ISIS and is believed to be in retaliation to was airstrikes against its forces. The airstrikes were in the town of Manbij, a stronghold for the jihadist group in Syria's Aleppo province. This attack was the biggest to hit Kurdish-majority Qamishli since the start of the civil war in 2011.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 27 July 2016.
Kurdish officials have revealed that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber who was driving an explosives-laden truck. It was initially described as a double bombing, but it has since been clarified that the bomb had detonated a nearby fuel container which led to a second explosion.
Syrian state media has revealed that 44 people had been killed and 140 injured, while the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has revealed that 48 had been killed including women and children. Qamishli is under the shared control of the Syrian regime and Kurdish authorities and the attack was targeted at Kurdish administration buildings including the defense ministry - the area is considered a secure zone.
It may be noted that more than 280,000 people have been killed in Syria since the war began and more than half the country's population has been displaced by the ensuing violence.

Jihadist kills 85-year-old priest in a church Normandy - churches in Britain to tighten security

An ISIS jihadist has killed an 85-year-old priest in a church in Normandy and, as a result, churches in Britain have been told to tighten their security. The church that had been targeted was on a "hit list" found on a 24-year-old Algerian jihadi who had planned attacks last year in a Parisian suburb.
The man is a computer sciences student and had been arrested by French police who are investigating whether he had instructions to carry out attacks on churches by Islamic State.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 27 July 2016.
Even though there are no specific intelligence relating to attacks against the Christian community in the UK, the police is cautioning the community to be alert but not necessarily alarmed. They should report concerns and review their security as a precaution.
In the Normandy attack, there were two terrorists who stormed the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, a working-class town near Rouen, northwest of Paris. The incident took place during morning mass. They forced the Father Jacques Hamel to kneel and then slit his throat after taking worshippers hostage - two nuns were among the hostages.
The killers were later shot dead by police.
One of the pair has been identified. He is a 19-year-old "Isis soldier" and a known terror treat - he was being monitored with an electronic tag after being arrested twice for attempting to flee France and join the terror group in Syria. He has been released early from prison and his bail conditions allowed him to roam freely between 8.30am and 12.30pm. The attack happened between 9am and 11am.

ISIS carries out suicide attack in Kabul - 80 killed, death toll could rise

ISIS have entered Afghanistan and two suicide bombers attacked a crowd of demonstrators in Demazang Square in Kabul and one of them blew himself up in the crowd. As a result, at least 80 people have been killed and more than 230 are injured. The death toll is likely to rise because many of the injured are in serious condition.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 23 July 2016.
The protest march was by Afghanistan's ethnic Hazaras who were demanding that a major regional electric power line be routed through their impoverished home province. Most of the Hazaras are Shia Muslims, while most Afghans are Sunni. This so-called TUTAP power line is backed by the Asian Development Bank with the involvement of countries like Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The original plan had been to route the line through Bamiyan province, in the central highlands, where most of the country's Hazaras live but, that route was changed in 2013 by the previous Afghan government. Hence the unrest. Bamiyan province, populated mostly by Hazara people is poverty stricken, though it is largely peaceful and has potential as a tourist destination.
It seems two suicide bombers had targeted the demonstrators, who were gathering in Demazang Square as their four-hour protest march wound down. The police shot dead one of the suicide bombers.
There was an intelligence input that an attack on the march could take place, and had the organizers had been warned accordingly. Three district police chiefs on duty at the square were injured while three security personnel were killed.

Lone wolf attack in Munich mall kills 10 including the attacker

In a lone wolf attack in Munich, at least nine people were killed and 16 others injured in the shooting rampage at a busy shopping district in Munich, Germany. There were many children among the casualties. The gunman started shooting at a McDonald's across from the Olympia mall which is adjacent to the site of the 1972 Olympics.
The mall is located in a middle-class neighborhood in northern Munich and is the city's biggest mall as well as a popular destination for shoppers on Friday nights.

Youth attacks train commuters with an axe - leaves more than 20 injured, some seriously

A 17-year-old youth described as an Afghan refugee attacked passengers in a German commuter train with an axe and injured more than 20 people before being shot and killed by police. Three of the victims sustained serious injuries before the assailant fled from the scene. He was later confronted by police officers in the southern German province of Bavaria.
The youth is believed to be a Muslim because he had shouted "Allahu Akhbar" (Arabic for 'God is great') before he was shot dead.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 19 July 2016.
The attacker had arrived in Germany as an unaccompanied refugee and was living in a Wuerzburg suburb. The authorities feel he had acted alone but it was too early to term it as an act of terrorism. The attack took pace in the backdrop of possible terrorist attacks, coming four days after 84 people were killed in an apparent jihadist-inspired attack in Nice, in the French Riviera.
The incident took place on a commuter line that runs from Treuchtlingen to Wuerzburg in Bavaria province. The youth hacked and slashed at some of the train's 20 passengers, injuring at least four of them.

Failed coup attempt in Turkey - 161 people killed and 1,440 wounded

A failed coup attempt in Turkey has left at least 161 people dead and more than 1,440 injured and Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has confirmed to his supporters that he is still in charge. He said that the attempted coup by soldiers "pointed the people's guns against the people".
Turkey's prime minister, Binali Yildirim has said that the situation is completely under control.
Speaking outside Istanbul Ataturk Airport, the President condemned the uprising as an act of "treason" and went on to add - "The president, whom 52% of the people brought to power, is in charge. This government brought to power by the people, is in charge.... They won't succeed as long as we stand against them by risking everything."
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 16 July 2016.
A total of 2,839 military personnel were arrested after a group calling itself the Council for Peace in the Homeland declared martial law and a curfew. Prime Minister Yildirim has indicated that those who have been detained included ordinary soldiers as well as high-ranking officers. 20 of the plotters had died and another 30 had been wounded.
Pro-coup soldiers who had seized Istanbul's Bosporus bridge had abandoned their tanks and surrendered. Blasts were also heard at Istanbul's famous Taksim Square, where large crowds gathered after news of the attempted coup broke.
The Turkish military's acting chief of staff has gone on to add that those who took part in the uprising were from the air force, the gendarmerie, and what he called "armoured elements". While Turkey did not have the death penalty, legal changes would be considered to make sure that such an incident was not repeated.

Synthetic marijuana sees 33 people collapse simultaneously on the streets of New York

It was a strange sight on the street of New York when as many as 33 persons collapsed simultaneously because of the effects of an overdose of synthetic marijuana known as K2. Some has labeled it as a scene from an episode of The Walking Dead. Only, it wasn't zombies who could barely stand, but it was New Yorkers.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 13 July 2016.
The incident happened in Brooklyn and all of them were suffering from a bad batch of bad drugs. All the thirty-three people were hospitalized for a possible overdose on K2 which is a type of synthetic marijuana. The police first received a report of multiple people with an 'altered mental status' outside a Brooklyn community garden on Stockton Street. They found eight intoxicated individuals before discovering nine more.
As per witness accounts, they saw more than a dozen people passing out, vomiting, urinating and twitching in the middle of the street around 9.30am in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. The area is known as 'ground zero' for K2 addicts in the city. The people showed up and then quickly dropped to the ground - they flopped over hoods of cars, or crumpled onto the sidewalk. They appeared to be oblivious to their surroundings and just couldn't stay on their feet.

There were more than 2000 gun related violence in Chicago during 2016

Considering the shootouts between suspected gang members on the last day of the 4 July holiday weekend, the number of shooting victims in Chicago in 2016 so far to 2,021. Out of them, so far this year, 315 people have been murdered as a result of gun crime.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 7 July 2016.
Compared to the current situation, the total for the whole of 2015 was just over 2,900 and it is understood that the city's police force had hoped that a new strategy for dealing with gun violence had been working. The 4 July weekend is often the most violent in the city and this year 5,000 officers had been posted on duty in key areas.

Two suspected ISIS jihadists arrested in Ataturk Airport

Two suspected ISIS jihadists have been arrested in Ataturk Airport in Istanbul - the two had with them night-vision binoculars, fake passports and military-style clothing and were from Kyrgyztan. One of the earlier suicide bombers who killed 45 persons in an attack in the airport a week back was also from Kyrgyztan.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 4 July 2016.
It may be recalled that 45 people have died following the attack on Tuesday night. In the attack, three men walked into the airport and open fire before blowing themselves up. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but the Turkish government believes ISIS was behind it. Moreover, there are suspicions that the bombers were part of a Russian-speaking unit of jihadis and was led by a one-armed Chechen warlord.
Anyway, the two men now arrested have been identified and are aged 25 and 35 respectively. It is still not clear whether they were arriving or leaving Ataturk Airport. Police have recovered night-vision binoculars and military-style clothes from their suitcases along with two passports in different names.

120 killed in ISIS suicide bombing in busy shopping district of Baghdad

At least 120 people have been killed and more than 170 injured in an ISIS suicide attack in a busy shopping area in central Karrada district of the Baghdad - this was the deadliest single attack in Baghdad this year. Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al Abadi has vowed "punishment" for the perpetrators and his office has announced three days of mourning for the victims.
ISIS has claimed responsibility in an online statement and have indicated that they had deliberately targeted Shia Muslims but, this statement has yet to be verified.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 4 July 2016.
The suicide bomber arrived in he area in an explosives-laden truck around midnight as families and young people were out on the streets after breaking their Ramadan fast. Fifteen children were victims of the attack and, most of them were inside a multi-storey shopping and amusement center.
In a second bombing in eastern Baghdad in a predominantly Shia area, another five people were killed and 16 wounded. No group has claimed responsibility for the second attack, but it had the hallmarks of IS militants. These Baghdad bombings have come after Iraqi forces retook Fallujah, around 40 miles west of Baghdad, from IS and it is thought to be a breakthrough in an offensive against the extremists. In the beginning when ISIS came to power two years ago, they controlled nearly a third of the country. Today it is estimated to control only 14% of Iraqi territory - this is as per Iraq's PM.
