Man slips while watching bull running in Spain and gored to death

A 36-year-old man was gored to death by a bull when he slipped and fell while watching the bull running at a popular Spanish festival in the nearby town of La Vilavella. The man was fatally injured after he slipped as the animal chased revelers.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 31 August 2016.
It seems the man was standing by a barrier next to a bar when he was attacked and is said to have suffered damage to his carotid artery. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital from the scene. This was the first this year in a festival involving bulls in the province of Castellon.
Earlier this month a 13-year-old girl was gored at a festival in Museros which is a 40-minute drive from Valencia. She suffered a four-inch wound to her knee - she had managed to evade controls that were designed to stop under-16s from entering a fenced-off area where the animals chase down revelers.
This incident happened a day after a 15-year-old boy was gored in the nearby Costa Blanca holiday resort of Calpe. He, apparently, lost his footing as the animal charged towards him and suffered an injury to his left armpit.
In July a 29-year-old man died after being attacked by a heifer during an an annual festival in Pedreguer near Valencia and on July 16 a 47-year-old mother of two was gored to death by a heifer at a festival in Moratalla in Murcia, south east Spain, which she was attending with her family. She had tried to escape the animal behind railings after it was let loose in the streets but was caught on its horn, suffered a fatal injury to her abdomen and died a few hours later in hospital. It happened in full view of her husband and children.

Super powers Russia and America still undecided on military cooperation in Syria

In spite of several meetings and discussions at different forums, the solution to the situation in Syria keeps eluding the super powers. America and Russia have, yet again, failed to arrive at an agreement on military co-operation and a cessation of hostilities in Syria.
The latest round of talks in Geneva between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov went on for nine hours and, at the end of the talks, all they agreed upon was that they had "achieved clarity on the path forward", but still have issues to resolve before an agreement could be reached.
They have indicated that teams on both sides would try to finalize details in the coming days.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 27 August 2016.
Both the sides agreed that they were looking for a deal that would work for the people of Syria and make the region more stable and secure. Kerry's counterpart echoed the same sentiments and said that "very important steps" had been made on a deal to stop the violence.
It is now for the technical teams comprising US and Russian military and intelligence experts, to try and figure out how best to separate the opposition groups, backed by the US and Gulf Arab countries, from the jihadis. The future of President Assad is not a part of the current talks. Rather, the focus is on finding an effective and lasting solution to end the violence, which would open negotiations on a political transition in Syria.

Three car bombings in Turkey kill at least 11, more than 200 injured

Three car bombings targeted a pair of police stations and a military vehicle in Turkey and killed at least 10 people and wounding at least 219 others. A village guard was also killed in a separate clash bringing the toll to 11.
This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 18 August 2016.
The third bombing killed four soldiers in a military vehicle in southeast Turkey. The vehicle was returning from an operation in the mainly-Kurdish province of Bitlis when it was struck by a roadside bomb which was, reportedly, detonated by Kurdish rebels. A village guard was killed in clashes between security forces and the Kurdish rebels in a nearby village.
Earlier, a car bomb attack on a police station in the eastern province of Van late killed a police officer and two civilians and injured at least another 73 people — 53 of them were civilians and remaining 20 police officers. Some hours later, another car bomb hit police headquarters in the eastern Turkish city of Elazig. The death toll was three police office officers with another 146 wounded. At least 14 of them were in serious condition. The explosion happened on the grounds of the police headquarters and caused cars parked nearby to catch fire.
Fighting between the PKK and Turkey's security forces resumed last year following the collapse of a fragile peace process and, ever since, more than 600 Turkish security personnel and thousands of PKK militants have been killed. Many civilians have also died according to human rights groups.

Killing of a 23-year-old black man in Milwaukee triggers violence against the police

A 23-year-old black man was shot dead by a black policeman in Milwaukee and this has led to violence and clashes with the public. An armored vehicle was used by officers to pick up the injured victim and take him to hospital and the police in riot gear had to confront a crowd of around 150 people near to the scene of the fatal shooting.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 15 August 2016.
The police was pelted with bottles and rocks and there were shots while a number of businesses were also set on fire and four officers were hurt in the clashes - there were 17 arrests. The violence was after a petrol station and police car were set alight.
It seems that the 23-year-old man was shot after he turned towards an officer, who was also black, with a gun in his hand. Based on the silent video from the unidentified officer's body camera, he was within lawful bounds. The attacker ran "a few dozen feet" and turned towards the officer while holding a gun in his hand. He was even raising up with it. When asked to drop the weapon, he failed to comply.
This unrest is the latest in a series of disturbances to hit US cities that included Baton Rouge, Dallas, and Ferguson, Missouri - these were due to fatal police shootings of black men. Incidentally, police in Milwaukee have earlier been at the center of controversy after an officer shot dead a mentally ill black man in 2014.

Donald Trump has his ideas of defeating ISIS and other terror outfits

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is faced with sagging poll numbers in key swing states and plans to draw up his strategy of defeating the Islamic State (IS) and other such terrorist outfits.
Simultaneously, he also plans to define his proposals to prevent terrorist attacks in the US. These could include banning individuals from countries where Washington cannot adequately vet visa applicants, apart from increasing cooperation with willing Middle Eastern allies.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 15 August 2016.
It seems that he also is keen to forge friendship of sorts with Middle East countries through his overtures of making it clear that the US will abandon any ambitions for nation-building or spreading democracy in the Middle East. This is expected to strengthen America's ability to engage Middle Eastern allies in the fight against the IS.
Incidentally, his expected call to work with Muslim allies is against a backdrop of fierce criticism and condemnation of the Republican candidate from Muslims in the US and abroad since December. At that time, he had proposed "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the US".

France to impart lessons in schools on survival technques in case of ISIS attacks

In view of the terror attacks in France, the authorities have decided to impart lessons in how to survive a terror attack at school. This would be stated when the students return to school next month after their summer holidays. The lessons would be given to all those aged 14 and over and the course would include basic 'life-saving' skills as well as how to stay calm in the event of an attack.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 11 August 2016.
In the opinion of French officials, these lessons will improve the resilience of youngsters and also train them to have good reactions. The schools will have to conduct three bomb threat drills throughout the academic year so that they are not 'taken by surprise' in the event of an attack. These will be different from a fire alarm drill.
The ISIS has already said in December that schools are a 'top priority' target. The terror group wants to remove children from French schools and kill teachers for being 'enemies of Islam' because they teach secularism.
Under the new measures, the headteachers would have to hold special meetings with parents and inform them about what security measures they have in place. The schools will also see surveillance stepped up in the roads around their buildings to ensure security.

Suspected chlorine gas attack in Aleppo kill at least four

A suspected chlorine gas attack in Aleppo in Syria has led to at least four deaths. It is believed that the gas was dropped alongside barrel bombs on the Zubdiya neighborhood. This is in the rebel-held part of the city. A manager of the Al Quds hospital has indicated that he had recorded four deaths and 55 injuries and was preserving pieces of patients' clothing and pieces of the bombs as evidence.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has confirmed that a woman and her child were among the dead.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 11 August 2016.
A video posted by an opposition news portal showed a child and adults wearing breathing apparatus. Moreover, two of the men reported about the strong smell of gas. They also said about seeing barrel bombs before people began to suffer breathing and eye problems.
It seems both the sides have denied using chemical weapons but United Nations investigators say that sarin gas was used in Eastern Ghouta three years ago. This had killed an estimated 1,429 people, including at least 426 children. Subsequently, in late 2015, mustard gas was used in the conflict. This was confirmed by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Aleppo is Syria's most populous city before the war and has been the subject of a bitter fight between rebel forces and those under the command of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

War waged on ISIS by the US and UK has destroyed 26000 targets

When the US-led coalition began its airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria, it had been predicted that it would be a long drawn-out one. And, from existing statistics, it is evident that even though the combined efforts of the US and UK have destroyed 26000 ISIS targets, much more needs to be done.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 9 August 2016.
Till now, more than 14,000 strikes have been launched at a cost of $8.4bn to the United States and $365m to the UK and nearly 26,000 targets have been either destroyed or damaged. The campaign has stepped in its second year an additional 2,336 airstrikes and there have been twice as many civilian deaths. Figures indicate 1,080 according to data furnished by a London-based monitor called Airwars.
However, the Pentagon says that only 55 civilians have been killed by US aircraft while the UK Ministry of Defence says British strikes have not resulted in death of any innocents. The fact is that nearly 3.2 million Iraqis have been displaced and the number of Syrians is much more. The mass exodus has had a devastating all round effect because it has not only changed borders, but has swelled towns, and emptied cities.
Incidentally, in 2014, President Barack Obama had said that he did not want the United States to be dragged into another war in Iraq - but, events have proved otherwise - right now, there are some 3,800 US soldiers in Iraq. And, the US plans to send another 400 American troops to an airbase south of Mosul which is a strategic city.

Bomb blast in Quetta civil hospital leave at least 30 dead

A powerful bomb blast in the premises of a government-run hospital in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta has left at least 30 dead with dozens more wounded. The blast happened shortly after the body of a prominent lawyer, who had been killed in a shooting attack earlier in the day, was brought to the hospital.
This has been reported in abcnews.go.com dated 8 August 2016.
It seems nearly 100 lawyers and other people had gathered there at the time and most of the dead were lawyers who had gathered after the body of Bilal Kasi was brought to the hospital. A reporter of a Pakistani news channel has revealed that one of the victims was its cameraman. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast, which struck at the gates of the building housing the emergency ward, on the hospital grounds.
Lawyer Bilal Kasi was gunned down on his way to court earlier in the day and it is not yet known whether the death of the lawyer and the bombing were related in any way.

Syrian city of Aleppo falls into hands of rebels and jihadists

Aleppo is the second largest city in Syria and it has been taken over by jihadists and rebels who have captured strategic military positions on the edges of the city thereby turning the tables on Russian-backed regime forces who had been besieging the city.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 7 August 2016.
Moreover, Western-backed alliance of Arab and Kurdish fighters have scored a major victory against the Islamic State (IS) group in the town of Manbij after a fierce two-month battle.
The capture of territory south of Aleppo has been done in a bid to cut off regime forces and open up a new route into besieged rebel-held districts. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said that 'The Army of Conquest... took control of the armament school, where there is a large amount of ammunition, and a large part of the artillery school” at a military academy. The coalition of rebels, Islamists, and jihadists “is about to cut off, by gunfire, the supply route into government-controlled districts ... That road passes through a southwestern suburb of Ramussa and is the last route into Aleppo used by regime troops.'

North Korea plans to conquer the Moon in 10-year's time

North Korea has plans to conquer the Moon and plant its flag on its surface within 10 years. This has been announced by a director of the country's version of NASA. He has added that international sanctions will not come in the way of its putting more advanced satellites into orbit over the next five years.
North Korea leader Kim Jong Un has ordered his scientists to launch more Earth observation satellites and, in what would be a significant advance, the country's first geostationary communications satellite.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 4 August 2016.
It seems a scientist at North Korea's National Aerospace Development Administration, has intimated to a section of the media that even though the US and its allies are trying to block NK's space development, its aerospace scientists will overcome the hurdle, conquer space and definitely plant the flag of the DPRK on the Moon.
He has also added that North Korean intends "to do manned spaceflight and scientific experiments in space, make a flight to the moon and moon exploration and also exploration to other planets".
The launching of more Earth observation satellites and, the country's first geostationary communications satellite would pave the way for the flight to the moon with a time-frame of 10 years.
