Car bomb kills at lesat 80 in Kabul near foreign embassies


A powerful car bomb has exploded in the center of Afghanistan's capital which is believed to be the safest place near the presidential palace with many embassies in the neighborhood. The death toll is around 80 with more than 350 injured and the toll could increase.
The toll figures have been confirmed by Afghanistan's public health ministry.

The blast was in a car bomb near the German embassy, and it happened at the peak of Kabul's rush hour, when roads were packed with commuters. The force of the blast has damaged or destroyed at least 30 vehicles. Incidentally, the neighborhood is considered to be a safe area, with foreign embassies protected by dozens of three-metre-high blast walls and government offices guarded by police and national security forces.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

Suicide bomber kills 16 in Baghdad icecream parlour


A suicide bomber targeted an ice cream parlor in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and killed at least 16 persons. It wass the Al-Faqma ice cream shop. The attacker detonated a parked vehicle laden with explosives outside the shop and responsibility has been accepted by ISIS. Another 75 people were injured in the blast.

Subsequently, there was a second car bomb explosion near one of Baghdad's main bridges in which the death toll was 11. The blast happened just days into the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. It is a time when Iraqis often stay out late after breaking their fast at sunset.

A young bull-tamer gored to death in Madurai district


A 23-year-old bull-tamer was gored to death during an event held at Melur in Madurai district. People from Melur and adjoining villages participated in the event. The youth who got killed was one among many bull-tamers who had come to participate.
This is not like events like jallikattu and manjuvirattu where the bulls are let loose into the arena and tamers have to hold on to the humps of the animals for a particular period of time to be declared winners. In vadamadu manjuvirattu, the animal is tied to a pole and the participants have to tame it within a stipulated time.

According to the police, the bull-tamer had tried to hold on to a bull, but it attacked him and he suffered severe injuries to his neck. He was shifted to a nearby hospital but he died without responding to the treatment. The event was conducted by the youth wing of BJP and the party's Tamil Nadu state president took part in the event and distributed prizes to the winners.

Entry of visitors to be barred in Chamundi Hills after 10pm


In view of molestation and robbery in Chamumdi HIlls, the authorities are taking a decison to ban entry of visitors to the venue after 10pm. A German national was molested near Nandi Bull statue just after sundown. The miscreant took advantage of the darkness and, absences of surveillance cameras and security personnel. Earlier, a youth was robbed of his gold chain. It was done by two bike-borne miscreants and happened in during broad daylight.

The police are putting up boards on all four entry/exit roads to Chamundi Hills and also installing security cameras at vantage points. There will be gates at four places and the security on the 1000-footsteps will also be strengthened. The intention is to ensure safety of the visitors and prevent atrocities and crimes.

Taliban ambush kills at least 20 Afghan soldiers


Taliban ambush in south central Afghanistan have killed at least 20 Afghan policemen. Fighting is an ongoing affair and the police were attacked in an ambush in the areas of Chino and Ghulam Rabat. Apart from the dead, there are at least 10 more wounded and the numbers may increase once full details are known. Dozens of Taliban fighters were also believed to have been killed and wounded.

Reinforcements have been sent to the area and fighting was also going in another nearby district, but the extent of casualties was not readily known. It seems the Taliban offensives have reappeared because American and allied officials are considering reinforcing the military setup by sending some more military advisers to help train and assist the Afghan security forces who are battling a 16-year-long Taliban insurgency.

Airstrikes kill at least 27 ISIS militants in Iraq


International coalition against IS posts in the IS-held areas in Iraq's western province of Anbar have killed at least 27 militants belonging to the ISIS. The strikes were carried out by the US-led coalition aircraft and the target was an internet cafe that was used by IS militants as a headquarters in the town of al-Qaim near the border with Syria.

A second airstrike destroyed an IS post in the city of Aana and left another six militants dead. An international airstrike also bombed a booby-trapped vehicle in which its driver was killed. These actions are taken to drive out the ISIS militants their major stronghold in the western side of Mosul in northern Iraq.

US police arrest serial killer of Phoenix who had killed at least nine people


US police managed to arrest a suspected serial killer in connection with a number of shootings that had created an atmosphere of terror in Phoenix, Arizona. The 23-year-old, dubbed the Serial Street Shooter, was arrested on suspicion of a total of nine murders but, he is believed to have been involved in a total of 12 shootings.

Most of the attacks were committed between 2015 and July of 2016 in a predominantly Latino neighborhood of the Arizona city and his method was to stalk the victims after dark and target those who were either outside their homes or were sitting in their cars. One of his victims was a 12-year-old girl.
HE was arrested for the first time last month in connection with the 2015 shooting of a 61-year-old man and detailed investigation opened up the Pandora's Box. All the other killings were random and the killer did not know his victims.
