Tagore shamed – girl student humiliated, sexually harassed and forced to leave Vishwa Bharati

A girl student of the famous Vishwa Bharati University of poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore was detained, interrogated and "humiliated" by officials of the University and the sexually harassed girl and her father were forced to leave the hallowed campus in tears timesofindia.indiatimes.com. She has vowed never to return.
The aggrieved father has revealed that they fear for their safety because the VB authorities do not have any sympathy for the victim. Rather, they were trying to prove that she was guilty. In fact, they interrogated the girl more than those boys and that added to her trauma. We are sentimentally attached to Rabindranath Tagore and consider Visva-Bharati a temple.
It seems this incident has touched a raw chord somewhere and the Prime Minister's Office is closely monitoring the controversy while the UGC has set up a fact-finding committee to probe the allegations, sources in Delhi said.
As per the girl’s complaint, three classmates had misbehaved with her, taken an obscene MMS and were blackmailing her with it. The alleged incident happened four days ago. She was so traumatized that she had to be hospitalized and filed a written complaint after she was discharged on Thursday.
In order to hush up the affair, the VB authorities allegedly "checked" the phones of the three accused youths and declared that there was no obscene photo – of course, they admitted they did not get the data card investigated for deleted pictures.

British Prime Minister warns that Britain is in the sight of ISIS fanatics

British Prime Minister David Cameron is a panic-stricken leader because he feels that Britain is in the sights of ISIS fanatics – accordingly, there would be more armed police to patrol the streets of Britain in order to counter the threat that is posed by the fanatics who are returning from Iraq and Syria dailymail.co.uk.
The Prime Minister has warned that the return of hundreds of murderous extremists posed a major threat to the security of Britain, the threat was greater than that posed by either the al-Qaeda or the IRA. He also cautioned that Islamist terrorists cannot be 'appeased' and needed to be faced down.
His comments came even as Theresa May announced the official terror threat level had been raised to ‘severe’ – the second-highest state – for the first time in three years.
Among the various steps proposed to be introduced are an increase in high-profile police patrols, including the greater use of armed officers, particularly at airports and major railway stations. Moreover, ‘uncompromising’ new laws would be introduced to plug ‘gaps in our armory’ in dealing with the threat posed by Islamic State extremists. These would include enhanced powers to remove the passports of radicalized Muslims who seek to join the fighting in the Middle East. There are also proposals to remove the passports of extremists who have already gone abroad.

Setback for Ukraine as pro-Russia separatists take over coastal town of Novoazovsk

Ukraine suffered another setback as the pro-Russia separatists take over control of the strategic coastal town of Novoazovsk, a day after Ukraine claimed tanks and armored vehicles had invaded from Russia foxnews.com. Reports indicate that at least a half-dozen tanks have been seen in the town of about 12,000 people – the tanks bear the flags of Novorossiya, the would-be state proclaimed by rebels in two eastern Ukraine regions.
While none of the tanks bore any Russian markings, it seems the ready-made meals seen near one of the tanks carried markings which reveal that they were issued by the Russian army.
As clarified by a rebel commander, there is no Russian equipment arriving and they are making use of whatever machinery the Ukrainian forces have abandoned.
Of course, such claims of using only confiscated Ukrainian equipment are quite common but the top rebel leader Alexander Zakharchenko has himself admitted that Russia was supplying equipment and fighters. Russia continues to reject all such insinuations and that has been hotly dismissed by the West.
NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has indicated that in spite of Moscow's hollow denials, Russian troops and equipment have illegally crossed the border. This is a blatant violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and defies all diplomatic efforts for a peaceful solution.
NATO has revealed that there are at least 1,000 Russian troops in Ukraine and has also made public satellite photos of Russian self-propelled artillery units moving in Ukraine.

Mumbai teachers held for suicide of three teens of Virar who had been caned

Teachers of a school in Virar in Mumbai were arrested by the police for abetment of suicide of three teen students who fled from the hostel on Monday and were found dead in the nearby river – the teachers now face the death penalty timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
The teachers teach Sanskrit and physical training (PT) and they have also been charged with voluntarily causing hurt for thrashing the students and common intention. They have been remanded in police custody and could face the death penalty for abetment of suicide of children.
It seems the three students of Class IX were caned by the teachers for their poor scores in Sanskrit and the threat of a repeat the following day must have prompted the 14-year-old boys to scale the hostel wall and escape that night. Their bloated bodies were recovered from the Sukh River behind the school the next day.
Other students of Class IX have confirmed about the thrashing to the police – all the students are from Mumbai and have gone back home and are not likely to return to the school.
Autopsy report is awaited which would reveal if the deaths happened due to drowning or if the boys were dead before they entered the water.
The boys were not allowed to keep cellphones or call up their parents from the hostel, and even though there is CCTV cameras, the students have told the police that the teachers switched them off before handing out punishment.

ISIS spreads chilling messages through videos that shows its thirst for blood

After spreading terror through its video of beheading of a US journalist, the ISIS have now revealed another video that shows 200 soldiers, in underwear, being marched to their death through the desert nzherald.co.nz. These videos just reveals the bloodthirsty nature of those who commit such crimes.
Reports indicate that the Islamic State group has killed more than 150 troops captured in recent fighting from a number of military bases in northeastern Syria – some have been shot dead, others knifed to death in the latest spate of mass killing attributed to the extremists.
Meanwhile, in southern Syria, gunmen detained 43 UNDOF (United Nations Disengagement Observer Force) peacekeepers during fighting on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights – this is as per reports from the United Nations said. Moreover, another 81 peacekeepers were trapped in the area by the heavy clashes between rebels and Syrian troops.
The office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon did not identify the armed group that is holding the peacekeepers but it is a known fact that a number of rebel groups operate in the Golan, while the Islamic State group has no known presence there.
The UN said another 81 peacekeepers are "currently being restricted to their positions" in the vicinity of Ruwaihaniyeh and Burayqa.
The government of Syria has denounced the "kidnapping" of the UN peacekeepers and, in a statement released by the Syrian Foreign Ministry, the government said it holds "the terrorist groups and those who support them fully responsible for the safety of the UN peacekeepers, and calls for their immediate release."

Poroshenko cancels visit to Turkey because of Russian troop deployments in Ukraine

Ukraine's president Petro Poroshenko has cancelled a visit to Turkey because of "Russian troop deployments" in the country's east. Reports indicate that in the latest offensive, pro-Russian rebels have opened a new front in the south by seizing the coastal town of Novoazovsk bbc.com. NATO says that it has detected a significant increase of Russian arms being supplied to the rebels over the past two weeks whereas Russia has been continuously denying that its forces have crossed Ukraine's border.
As a result, the United Nations Security Council is planning to hold an emergency meeting in New York on Thursday at 18:00 GMT to discuss the crisis.
NATO Brigadier General Niko Tak has admitted that there had been a "significant escalation in the level and sophistication of Russia's military interference in Ukraine" over the past two weeks.
It seems NATO has detected large quantities of advanced weapons, including air defense systems, artillery, tanks, and armored personnel carriers that have been transferred to separatist forces in eastern Ukraine. Obviously, Russia is reinforcing and resupplying separatist forces in a blatant attempt to change the momentum of the fighting, which is currently favoring the Ukrainian military.
More than 1,000 Russian troops are reportedly operating inside Ukraine, both supporting the separatists and fighting on their side and, so far, at least 2,119 people have been killed in the four months of fighting.

The weapon used and the getaway vehicle land the LA serial killer in the police net

It was murder most foul and not one but seven of them in the span of a few days in Los Angeles – the police had no clue except the weapon that had been used by the killer and his getaway vehicle news.sky.com.
The 34-year-old man Alexander Hernandez was initially arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty but, it seems, his cruelty extends to human beings – he has been accused of being a prolific serial killer in Los Angeles.
He has been charged with murder of Gildardo Morales, a pickup truck driver, in San Fernando and is also the sole suspect in a shooting where three people were killed - apparently at random - in the space of an hour.
The alleged killing spree began when a woman and a couple were left critically injured after being fired at in separate incidents.
There is no known connection established till now between the victims, but a 70-strong task force in the LAPD has been able to link the attacks after similar descriptions were made about the weapon and getaway vehicle used.
The police are yet to charge him with their deaths but when arrested, he had a pistol-grip shotgun in his possession – the police believe this weapon was used in the attacks.
Incidentally, the suspect has four prior convictions, some of which involved prison time. These convictions included sentences for the possession of firearms and methamphetamine.

Child sex abuse victims of Rotherman seek compensation of £100,000 each

It is now public news that at least 1400 children had been subjected to various types of sexual abuse in the northern English town of Rotherham and the victims have now launched claims for compensation nzherald.co.nz . Rotherman is actually a declining steel and coal town with higher than average unemployment. The sexual abuse would send shivers down the spine, it was diabolical - some of the victims were doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone. The incident has outraged the people of Britain because the concerned officials failed to stop 16 years of abuse earlier and in fact turned a blind eye on the excuse that it could be misconstrued as a case of racial spite if any action had been taken. It seems the majority of known perpetrators of the heinous crime were of Pakistani origin. Reports indicate that fifteen girls who had been abused by gangs of men in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013 are reportedly claiming up to £100,000 each. Five men have been found guilty of grooming teenage girls for sex in Rotherham in 2010. Some more similar reports ...

IS militants recruit children as fighters, put on public display bodies of those killed

The UN has released a statement in which it has said that Islamic State militants have committed "mass atrocities" in Syria, including the recruitment of children as fighters bbc.com. Investigators have also reported that the IS is waging a campaign of fear in northern Syria by carrying out amputations, public executions and whippings. The bodies of those who are killed are put on public display for several days thereby terrorizing the local population. Other atrocities include women who have been lashed for not abiding by the dress code of the IS. In Raqqa, children as young as 10 are being recruited and trained at IS camps.
Paulo Pinheiro, the chairman of the commission, has warned of grave implications for the entire region.
Moreover, the investigators have accused the Syrian government of using chemical agents in eight separate incidents in western Syria this year.
The Islamic State (IS) is now in control of areas of Syria and is believed to be one of the groups fighting President Bashar al-Assad. Statistics reveal that at least 200,000 have died since the conflict began in early 2011.
The UN findings are the result of six months of interviews and evidence that have been collected between January and July this year as part of an inquiry into human rights violations inside Syria. The period coincides with the growth of the IS group in Syria, which seeks to create an independent Islamic State in an area that stretches across Syria and Iraq.
One of the investigators, Carla del Ponte, has urged world powers to refer Syria's war crimes to the International Criminal Court, calling it an important first step as it was in Rwanda and the Balkans.

Sex shops sprout in city of Henderson, next to Sin City Las Vegas

Residents of the city of Henderson, located next to Sin City Las Vegas, are worried about the new zoning rule that might lead to some of Sin City’s sexually-oriented businesses spilling over into their quiet, suburban town foxnews.com. It seems as per a new ordinance passed by Henderson's city council, there is a significance expansion in the area in which an adult bookstore or novelty shop can now open. This new ordinance requires that the shops remain in industrial areas and also increases the distance that these shops must be from schools, churches and homes from 1,000 to 1,500 feet with no exceptions. There is no permission for strip clubs - only novelty shops and books stores are allowed. The residents want the sin to remain in Sin City and not spill over into Henderson. The decision of Henderson to increase the land area that allows sexually-oriented businesses comes in the midst of a battle between the city and a business owner who tried to open an adult novelty store but did not get permission to do so. The business owner Edward Wheeler had made attempts to finalize the opening of the third location of his adult bookstore, The Love Shop, in Henderson. He had even spent nearly $20,000 in its planning and attorney fees to get the businesses started but was denied the license. Wheeler’s shop at present sells a variety of items like lingerie, lotions, candles and sexual items because, as Wheeler says, his shop is for “romantic couples.”

US to fight terror with terror – spy flights to Syria would identify probable hot spots

US President Barack Obama has compared the rise of the ISIS in Iraq and Syria as ‘cancer’ and his motto appears to be ‘a tooth for a tooth’. He has said that he would do whatever is necessary to go after those miscreants who harm Americans.
He has vowed that "justice will be done" against the killers of James Foley news.sky.com. The US has already launched surveillance flights over Syria to identify possible targets for carrying out airstrikes. The Islamic State (IS) militants had beheaded the journalist in a video released earlier this month and have seized large chunks of Syria as well as neighboring Iraq. The US is already conducting airstrikes there.
President Obama cautioned that America does not forget – he was talking to veterans at an American Legion convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. He said - our reach is long, we are patient, justice will be done. Rooting out a cancer like ISIL would not be easy, neither would it be quick.
Syria is already devastated by a three-year civil war and it has warned Washington that it would need permission to operate in its airspace. However, White House spokesman Josh Earnest has reiterated by saying that the US did not even recognize Syria's president, Bashar al Assad, as the country's legitimate leader.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki also echoed the same sentiments – she has said that when it came to defending US interests, "we're not going to ask for permission from the Syrian regime"

Shocking news of 1400 children being sexually abused in Rotherham

Rotherham is a small town of population around 250,000 and, as per a new report, it seems as many as 1400 children in the town had been sexually abused. The children included those as young as 11 years – and they we subject to physical beating, rape and being trafficked nzherald.co.nz. It seems most of the perpetrators of the crimes were Asian and no one bothered to pursue the matter with the Pakistani community of the area. The crimes ranged from children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness brutally-violent rapes and threatened they would be next. The independent report of Alexis Jay, who is a former chief social work adviser to the Scottish government, came after a series of convictions of sex offenders in the region and ground-breaking reports in the Times of London that prompted the local council to launch an inquiry. The period covered in the report is between 1997 and 2013. This report is nothing but a damning account of the collective failure by authorities to prevent sexual exploitation of children as young as 11. Jay is quite blunt in blaming the authorities – in his words, the collective failures of political and officer leadership were blatant … from the beginning, there was growing evidence that child sexual exploitation was a serious problem in Rotherham. Incidentally, Rotherham came into focus in 2010 when five men received lengthy jail terms after convictions of grooming teens for sex. Later, investigations were launched to examine and find out why the authorities failed to act even after frontline social workers had suggested that things were amiss.

10 Russian soldiers caught in Donetsk - Russia says: they must have crossed the border by mistake

Russia is continuing to insist that it has not sent any military into Ukraine but the fact remains that ten Russian soldiers were found in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine and have been detained edition.cnn.com. The country's Security Service has confirmed this even as tensions simmered over the conflict between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian rebels.
These 10 Russian soldiers were captured with documents and weapons on them and this automatically shows that Russia is not making correct statements – it has repeatedly denied claims by Kiev that it has sent troops and weapons over the border into Ukraine, where the Ukrainian military is fighting pro-Russian rebels.
The explanation offered by Russia's state-run RIA Novosti news agency quoting a source in the Russian Defense Ministry is that the soldiers had been patrolling the border and must have crossed the border by accident at an unmarked point.
This latest development comes as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, meet for the first time since June in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, for trade talks related to the Eurasian Customs Union. This is a trade bloc made up of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Senior European Union officials, headed by EU foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton, are also present in Minsk for the summit.

Might is right – girl gang raped in Lucknow and brought to Mumbai for trafficking

The police in Goregaon, Mumbai, have taken into custody a 16-year-old teenage girl of UP who was roaming in Goregaon station – she had, reportedly, been gang raped by a group of seven youths in Lucknow timesofindia.indiatimes.com. As per her statements, she was a school dropout and lived with her family at Kalwar in UP. She was at home on August 17 when a group of youths, numbering five to seven, kidnapped her from the porch. The group drove for several hours and finally landed up in Lucknow where they confined her in a room and satisfied their animal instincts by gangraping her between August 17 and 19. Later, from Lucknow, they brought her to Mumbai and for the next few days, the men roamed around, taking her along – their intention was to sell her into the flesh trade. However, the girl somehow, managed to give them the slip - she boarded local trains at random because Mumbai was a total stranger to her and she did not also know how to travel back to UP. Finally, when she reached Goregaon station, the cops found her. They offered her some food as she was starving and then sent her for a medical examination. The examination has confirmed rape. The police have lodged an FIR against the unknown youths and the girl’s cousin is on his way to Mumbai.

Syria willing to work with western powers to check the advances of the ISIS

Syria has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the international community and work with the US and UK in the battle against Islamic State (IS) militants because the very existence of Syria and its President Bashar al-Assad is threatened news.sky.com .
The ISIS fighters have captured the Tabqa air base in northeast Syria after days of fighting that cost more than 500 lives and the Sunni extremists have kept on grabbing large areas of Syria as well as parts of northern Iraq in recent months and has declared a "caliphate" that would straddle both countries.
Incidentally, the Western powers like the US and UK, have been extending support to more moderate rebel fighters in the three-year civil war against forces loyal to Syria's President Bashar al Assad. However, in view of the sudden appearance and rise of the ISIS, the US has indicated that it could extend the battle against the extremists into Syrian territory.
The US has already been carrying out airstrikes against IS in Iraq, and Syrian foreign minister Walid al Moualem has opened up the possibility of working with countries like the US, Britain and Saudi Arabia – they had supported the uprising against Mr Assad but now, Syria is keen to invite them in the battle against ISIS.
In the opinion of Mr al Moualem, Syria is geographically and operationally the center of the international coalition to fight Islamic State. He has added that the states must come to it if they are serious in combating terrorism. He has also clarified that US aerial raids against IS inside Syria would have to be coordinated with Damascus and anything outside that would amount to aggression.

The suspect was taken into custody by SWAT officers following a standoff that occurred when the man barricaded himself inside a house in Sylmar for about an hour.
Witnesses had reported seeing two men in a tan- or gold-colored SUV at two of the three crime scenes in the area.
As per the police, the victims appeared to have been be targeted at random and, probably the attacker was the same – because, the same type of weapon was used in the morning attacks and the suspect shot at victims from inside a car.

Prison inmates behead three prisoners in Brazil and throw others off the roof

Inmates of Cascavel prison in Brazil turned violent, took many of the prisoners as hostages and, then, beheaded three of them while throwing several others off the roof of the prison news.sky.com.
Not content with such a show of violence, they took prison officers hostage, set fire to the furniture and smashed rooms up with metal poles.
Police Captain Ricardo Pinto has explained that the riot at the prison in the southern city of Cascavel was an ongoing affair amid negotiations over better conditions.
As per reports given by Captain Pinto, the revolt at the 928 bed jail began before sunrise when a prison guard was captured during breakfast. Dozens of the prisoners climbed onto the roof of the building – their faces were covered with white fabric to avoid recognition.
Images captured by the local media showed at least 30 rebellious inmates shouting while they beat men held with ropes around their necks, or whose hands were tied behind them.
The reason for the riots appeared to be related to demand for better food and medical care in the prison. Or, as Captain Pinto feels, it could have been related to the recent convictions of two prisoners.

US has sounded the death knell for senior ISIS leaders in Syria

The cold blooded murder of US journalist James Foley has stirred up a hornet’s nest and the US is believed to be considering conducting air strikes aimed at eliminating individual leaders of the Islamic State theguardian.com. Simultaneously, Turkey is being pressurized to stem the flow of jihadists across its border and into Syria.
The time necessary to mount strikes at high-value targets, such as individual leaders, could be an hour, or "as much as a week". US officials are reportedly discussing the possibility of mounting unmanned drone strikes on ISIS leaders, as had been done in Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan.
Senior British politicians have urged Ankara to take necessary actions to block recruits from the UK and other countries from entering Syria via Turkey – this is their preferred route to join up with the Islamic State (formerly ISIS).
Reports indicate that large numbers of ISIS jihadists were trying to secure greater control of the border area, pushing northwards in armored trucks that they have looted from abandoned Iraqi military bases.
The game plan of ISIS is clear – it wants to establish dominance in the area to make it easier for potential recruits to gain safe passage and to allow the movement of vital supplies, including weapons and oil. Incidentally, this route has been used by most of the foreign fighters who have joined the cause, especially by several hundred of those who have joined ISIS from the UK.

The rape of two teenage girls in Badaun might not have been a rape after all

It was a rape that shocked the entire civilized world when the two girls of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, India, were found hanged from a tree on the 28th of May 2014 – it was a case that had sparked global outrage. The girls were cousins aged 14 and 15 and belonged to a lower caste and they had, reportedly, been raped by boys of a higher caste. A forensic investigation into clothing and swabs taken after the murder and alleged gang rape of two teenage cousins in northern India have now arrived at the conclusion that the girls were not sexually assaulted bbc.com
. Already, three suspected attackers have been taken into custody along with two policemen. This was because a local post-mortem examination had confirmed multiple sexual assaults and death due to hanging. The case was initially investigated by the state police as per norms, but was later handed over to federal investigators at India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It is now a problem for the CBI on how they will resolve the apparent contradictions between the latest forensic conclusions and the earlier post-mortem performed by the local authorities. India's Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) examined the clothes and personal effects of the girls and reported that it did not find any proof of sexual assault. Moreover, sources in the CDFD have revealed that there was no male DNA found on the clothes and personal effects of the girls and, simultaneously, there was no female DNA on the samples taken from the male suspects. The father of one of the victims has expressed shock at the latest report. Some more similar reports ...

24-year-old Japanese businessman has fathered 16 babies and wants hundreds more

His name is Mitsutoki Shigeta and he is a 24-year-old Japanese businessman – he has a ‘Baby Factory’ and is believed to have fathered at least 16 babies with surrogate mothers in Thailand dailymail.co.uk
. It seems he had hired 11 Thai surrogate mothers to carry his children, including four sets of twins. Police have not determined the biological mothers. He is currently at the heart of a multinational probe by Interpol after nine of his children were discovered in a 'baby factory' in an upmarket district of Bangkok. When the police raided the flat, they discovered nine babies living with nine paid nannies. The rooms were furnished only with bouncy chairs and play pens, and packed with baby bottles and nappies. Subsequent investigations have revealed that Mitsutoki Shigeta is the father of seven other babies. Interpol offices in Japan, Cambodia, Hong Kong and India have been asked to probe Mr Shigeta's background because he travels to these countries very frequently. In fact, he had made 41 trips to Thailand since 2010 and on several occasions he travelled to nearby Cambodia, where he took four of his babies.
