Mogadishu girls raped by soldiers of African Union in Somalia

Rape appears to be rampant in Somalia – as per reports of the Human Rights Watch (HRW), African Union (AU) troops have raped women and girls who had come seeking medical aid or water from their bases in Somalia's capital, Mogadishubbc.com
The troops had obviously "misused" their power over women who were fleeing from violence and poverty and, in one case, a 15-year-old Muslim girl had her headscarf ripped off before being raped.
The AU has nearly 22,000 troops fighting militant Islamists in Somalia and has assured to carry out investigation into the allegations. Incidentally, in 2012, the UN had recorded as many as 1700 rapes in camps for displaced people in Somalia. Many of these crimes were thought to have been carried out by members of the Somali security forces.
Majority of the women who were abused lived in camps for displaced people after fleeing violence and the 2011 famine.
As per HRW, it interviewed 21 women and girls, some of them were as young as 12, who described being raped by Ugandan or Burundian soldiers in the AU force. In a shocking case, a Burundian soldier gave a 15-year-old girl $10 after raping her – she had gone to an AU base of Burundian soldiers to collect medicine for her mother who was ill.
