The authorities have granted his request for assisted suicide who admits that he is a menace to society and cannot live knowing that because he cannot control his sexual urges. This has been informed by his lawyer.
He had been found guilty of murder and rape in a number of cases, and he now wishes to die because he has no viable treatment options left.
Belgium's justice minister approved the transfer of the individual to a hospital for euthanasia after doctors agreed that his mental condition was incurable – he would thus become the first detainee in Belgium to be put to death for psychiatric reasons.
Belgium has agreed to euthanasia since 2002 for the terminally ill, however, the vast majority of cases involve physical illnesses.
Even though Belgium has one of the broadest euthanasia laws in the world, this decision is raising eyebrows because some feel this is proof of a failing justice and health system.
Incidentally, Euthanasia requests in Belgium have seen a rise soaring from 1,400 in 2012 to 1,800 last year. Most of those who opt for it suffer from cancer or psychological disorders apart from patients with Alzheimer's, Huntington's, dementia and psychosis.
