British jihadists in ISIS are disillusioned – want to return home

If recent reports are to be believed, it appears that some of the British men who have traveled to the Middle East to fight on behalf of the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have become disillusioned because they have realized that they are now involved in gang warfare dailycaller.com.
These individuals want to return to the more tranquil confines of the United Kingdom but are apprehensive since they feel they would land up in prisons.
A certain professor Peter Neumann of King’s College London, who is an expert on terrorism and radicalization, has indicated that a jihadist had recently contacted researchers in King’s College. This individual claims to represent 30 other men. His clear-cut message was that British Muslim extremists who ventured to the Middle East to join ISIS radicals have now grown disenchanted with their adventure.
The analysis of Professor Neumann is that these Muslim Brits went to the Middle East to fight Syria’s Assad regime but have finally ended up involved with various rebel factions in a complex civil war and these factions have taken to fierce and violent warring among themselves.
As per Western intelligence agencies, it is estimated that more than 500 British citizens have gone to Syria to fight under the ISIS umbrella or for some rebel group and about 20 of them have died. Moreover, nearly 250 of them have returned to Britain and, out of these returnees, 40 have been charged with crimes.
