Israel female soldiers of Caracal Battalion patrol the Egyptian borders

Israel female soldiers of the Caracal Battalion are based in the Negev desert - the battalion was formed in the year 2000 following mounting public pressure to allow women to serve in combat positions within the Israeli armed forces dailymail.co.uk. The battalion is made up mostly of woman and they have the task of patrolling the restless Egyptian border. As per IDF, the unit patrols the border with Egypt, protecting it from 'smugglers, infiltrators and terrorists.'
The unit is a mixed gender unit and, in 2009, about 70 per cent of the unit was female. Those women who volunteer to join the unit must go through the same examinations and challenges as meant for the male battalions.
The unit was named after the caracal – this is a desert cat that is mainly found across Africa, Central Asia, and Southwest Asia into India, and whose sexes are almost indistinguishable.
