The motive of the murder was money. It seems the designer had borrowed Rs 20,000 from the husband of the pregnant woman and when she began to pester to return the same, the designer killed her. She used three different to kill and then stuffed her body in the storage cabinet of her sofa. Later, she entertained her maid and sister in the house while the body remained concealed in the sofa cabinet.
It seems the woman first strangled the victim with a rope before throttling her with her bare hands. And, finally, she slashed her throat with a blade and bludgeoned her on the head.
The woman has, since, been arrested from Borivli East. She initially blamed an 'unknown assailant' for the crime and sent the police on a wild goose chase but finally confessed.
The designer is single and lived with her parents while the deceased lived in the same neighborhood with her husband and their four-year-old son and in-laws. The husband was employed as a driver and he had loaned the money after borrowing it from someone.
Moreover, both of them were apparently getting close and that led to a dispute about six months earlier which was subsequently resolved.
The concealment of the body was quite similar to the movie ‘The Rope’ where the murdered person was hidden in the sofa and lay there even as a party raged in the house.
