Nearly 40% schoolgirls in Britain suffer sexual coercion

#NSPCC #sexualcoercion #pornography #schoolgirls A study carried out by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in Britain has found that over 40% of schoolgirls aged between 13 and 17 have been coerced into engaging in sexual activity as reported in news.sky.com dated 11 February 2015.
Majority of the girls have admitted that they had been pressured into having sex and, some of them have also reported being raped.
The findings of the survey carried out by researchers at the Universities of Bristol and Central Lancashire and led by the NSPCC has revealed that many of the girls had suffered physical attacks, intimidation and emotional abuse.
The study was also carried out in Norway, Italy, Bulgaria and Cyprus and this study is believed to be the largest of its kind ever carried out in Europe and found that many teenage boys regularly view pornography and one in five have a negative attitude towards women.
It is shocking that nearly 22% of the girls have to suffer physical abuse, violence or intimidation from their boyfriends and these include slapping, punching and even strangling. This is certainly not good news for today’s society because the girls grow up feeling oppressed and the boys look upon bullying as a convenient tool to keep the fairer sex under the thumb.
The need of the hour is to bring up the children in such a way that they have positive relationships based on mutual respect.
