They had to target cellphones from upscale areas where they could easily come across people who carried high-end cellphones. If they stole any cheap phone, they would promptly return it to the owner by saying – ‘I think you have dropped your phone or some such thing.
The thieves had been working for the boss for the last four months.
As per confessions of the thieves, the stolen phones would be smuggled into Bangladesh. It seems the three of them would leave for work by 9 every morning and return with around 20 cellphones. They have confessed that they never stole phones on buses or trains but went to shopping malls and posh areas so that they could steal costly mobiles.
The police have managed to recover 28 cellphones and returned them to the rightful owners.
