This has been reported in bbc.com dated 16 March 2015.
The Australian police are stopping hundreds of people every day at airports so that would-be jihadists do not leave the country.
This has been made possible by the creation of a new counter-terror unit who do not carry out random checking but target potentially suspicious travelers.
This is the Border Force Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) and is a new unit that has been designed to tackle extremists who try to leave the country and join terror groups such as Islamic State (IS). It is understood that CTU teams in Sydney and Melbourne have intercepted at least 11 terror suspects in their first three weeks of operation. They have also seized extremist material apart from evidence of attempted movement of large sums of money.
The Border Force Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) are at present operating at Australia's eight international airports namely Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Cairns, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Darwin.
From the exercise carried out by Australia, other countries can introduce similar checks on outgoing travelers so that the designs of such would-be jihadists can be nipped in the bud.
