Terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims - seven killed

Terrorists opened fire on a bus near Batengoo in J&K's Anantnag district, about 50km from Srinagar, and the gunfire killed seven pilgrims of Gujarat were killed and 14 others injured, the dead included women. As per initial reports, the bus in which they were traveling was not registered with the Amarnath shrine board and was traveling after permitted hours without adequate security.

According to police sources, the terrorists initially attacked a police bunker at Batengoo and the fire was returned. Subsequently, they attacked a police naka near Khanabal and again faced retaliation. Thereafter, they targeted the tourist bus which was on its way to Jammu from Baltal and was not part of any convoy.
There were general inputs regarding a threat to Amarnath yatris but nothing specific. Moreover, his particular bus did not belong to the official convoy. It was also not registered with the Amarnath board, as required for all non-official vehicles headed for the shrine.
Incidentally, the official convoy had crossed the spot at 7pm, under protective cover of Jammu and Kashmir Police and, therefore, CRPF and security personnel were withdrawn from the area. The attack on the bus took place around 8.20pm.

Two Americans and a Spaniard were gored and many more needed treatment at the hospital for injures received during the frantic and crowded bull San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain. run of thrill-seekers. several other people were injured Saturday during the second running of the bulls at this year's San Fermin festival in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona, officials said.
According to information, one of the seriously injured was a 22-year-old American while the other was another American, a 35-year-old whose condition is said to be stable.

All the bulls belonged to the same ranch which has the reputation of being unpredictable. The bulls covered the distance of 850-meter over the cobbled-street in just over four minutes. The average time normally taken is three minutes and it took one minute more because one bull had broken away from the rest and turned around.
The festival is a nine-day fiesta and attracts tens of thousands of partygoers from Spain and abroad.

At least 15 killed in shootout in Mexico between police and drug gangs

Shootout between police and two rival drug gangs in northern Mexico has left at least 15 dead. It was a predawn battle near Las Varas and it began ass a firefight between rival drug trafficking gangs and escalated when police arrived.
The region is hotly disputed territory for Mexico's drug cartels because its mountainous terrain and proximity to the border of the US make it a strategic corridor for sending cross shipment of narcotics to America.

Fifteen people belonging to the drug gangs were killed and another five are arrested. This is the latest in a series of deadly clashes between police, rival drug gangs and warring factions within one of the drug cartels which has been in turmoil since its kingpin was extradited to the United States in January.
It seems last Friday, 17 gunmen were killed in a shootout with police on a highway in Sinaloa. Incidentally, May was the deadliest month in Mexico since the government began keeping track in 1997 - it accounted for more than 2100 homicides.

It seems a suicide bomber in the disguise of a woman killed 14 at a camp for displaced people in Iraq's western Anbar province . The incident happened in the al-Nuri Mosque and at least 20 were wounded in the explosion. Using women as suicide bombers is one of the latest tactic used by the militants. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
