All five accused of 2010 Dhaula Kuan sentenced to life for gang-rape of a BPO employee


In 2010, a group of five men abducted a call-center girl as she was returning home after duties along with her friend. The girl was taken from Dhaula Kuan to Mangolpuri in New Delhi and was left on the road there timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Based on the report of the girl the police were able to apprehend the five men from neighboring Haryana and they have now been sentenced to life imprisonment apart from fines of Rs 50,000 each by the High Court.
The charges against them were gang rape-cum-abduction case of a call centre employee belonging to the North East.
The quantum of sentence was pronounced in a jam-packed courtroom amidst high drama and one of the convicts fainted in the courtroom. Some relatives of the convicts also broke down in the court room and termed the verdict as miscarriage of justice, saying they would challenge the verdict in the Delhi high court.
Incidentally, after this incident, Delhi Police has issued ordered all BPOs in Delhi and the National Capital Region to drop women employees at their home after the end of their shifts.
