An investigation carried out by MPs have found that the illegal immigrants are headed for Britain and are making it across the entire EU without a single border check.
In order to keep a check, lorries are being told not to stop within 125 miles of the port – that could make it possible for people to clamber aboard. Hence, the targets are cars and caravans.
To the illegal immigrants, Britain is ‘El Dorado’ and, they are being caught at a rate of 100 per day but the numbers that have gathered in squalid camps around Calais has gone to nearly double and stands at around 2,500 in the space of a few months. Many of these immigrants had landed up in the EU via Turkey or Italy and have made their way to Calais without ‘encountering any border controls’.
Since the borders that grant access to the EU are not being properly policed, tens of thousands of people from Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea and Syria take advantage of the situation and enter via Italy, Greece and Turkey.
