Midair collision between two WWII-era planes near Dallas kills at least two

The WW-II vintage planes were a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a P-63 Kingcobra fighter aircraft. Both were participating in a commemorative air show near Dallas. They involved in a mid-air collision during an air show in Texas. At least two lost their lives in the tragedy. Video footage shows the aircraft striking each other at a low altitude as one of the aircraft breaks in half and a fireball hit the ground. There was no confirmation on the occupants of the two aircraft. The Allied Pilots Association represents American Airlines pilots. It identified two of the victims as those who died in the collision. A media report suggests as many as six people may have lost their lives in the collision. A group of between 4,000 and 6,000 had gathered to watch the Wings Over Dallas Airshow. One of the aircraft involved in the midair collision were a B-17 bomber that played a major role in winning the air war against Germany in WW2. The second plane was a P-63 Kingcobra fighter aircraft used in the same war, but in combat only by the Soviet Air Force. Dallas air show crash: Two World War Two planes collide in mid-air. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash at the three-day event. This event is the US's premiere WW2 air show and the occasion was Veterans Day. The authorities could not confirm the number of casualties but said there is no report of injuries to anybody on the ground. The B-17 usually has a crew of about four to five people, while the P-63 has a single pilot.

Six police officers shot at in Baton Rouge - three of them have died


Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is once again in the headlines because three police officers have been shot dead after being lured to their deaths through, what is believed, to have been, an apparent false 911 call. This is the city where a black man was shot dead by officers earlier this month.
The father-of-five had been shot dead on 5 July. He was shot in his car during a traffic stop by an officer near Minneapolis and his girlfriend filmed the aftermath and broadcast it live on the social media. That led to a nationwide protests. Subsequently, a gunman opened fire and killed five white police officers in Dallas.

In the latest shooting, the gunman shot six officers of which three have died and the others are in hospitals - one if teem is serious. Two of the three dead officers belonged to the city's police department while the third was from the sheriff's office. They were ambushed while responding to reports of gunfire.
The gunman has been identified and named in US media reports as a 29-year-old African-American from Kansas City. He also died in police fire.
President Barack Obama said the shooting underscored the danger law enforcement officials faced. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump blamed lack of leadership in the country. Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton commented that there was "no justification for violence" against officers.

Snipers kill four police officers in Dallas in retaliation of killing of two blacks


Four officers of the Dallas Police died and seven others suffered injuries after at least two snipers opened fire during protests downtown over two recent fatal police shootings. It seems it was an ambush style attack from a higher elevation and is believed to be a retaliatory attack - white policemen had shot dead two blacks, one of them was pinned down on the ground and then shot.

The gunfire broke out around 8:45 pm and live TV video showed protesters marching along a street in downtown when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover. The Dallas police chief has said that it two snipers shot 10 police officers during protests.
Hundreds of people had gathered in Union Square Park in Manhattan and took to the streets to protest the recent police-related shootings of two black men. They chanted slogans and the police scrambled to keep up with the crowd as the group left the park and marched up Fifth Avenue.
One of the shootings was in Minnesota where an officer fatally shot a man while he was in a car with a woman and a child in a St Paul suburb. The other was a day earlier - the victim was shot in Louisiana after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers. Both of these were captured on cellphone video.
