Taiwan has allies in the Pacific and Lithuania is its newest unofficial ally

China wants to swallow Taiwan. This is a self-ruled democracy, hungry for companionship. Its efforts go beyond official channels. It has diplomatic ties with Guatemala and allies in the Pacific. Lithuania is its newest unofficial ally and the government and local shoppers have embraced its imports. These range from lasers to bacon-flavored schnapps. “Taiwan is now receiving more international attention than ever before,” said President Tsai Ing-wen in on Taiwan’s national day of October 10. The country has fewer embassies than a decade ago. However, it now has more ties with a wider range of nations. Incidentally, this approach has been there since the 1980s and ’90s when diplomats and officials would go to play golf games in foreign capitals. The reason for its latest burst of diplomatic activity is probably a fallout of a sense of deepening insecurity. This probably stems from the attitude of China and new opportunities for connection. How Taiwan’s ‘Adorable’ and Ambitious Diplomacy Aims to Keep the Island Safe.

China, under the country’s top leader, Xi Jinping, has made Taiwan more of a priority. US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said recently that China is now operating on a “much faster timeline” to annex Taiwan. Neither of them mentioned any timeline. The latest foreign ministry budget of Taiwan included a sizable increase because it expects to host more than six meetings per day, every day of the year. Eswatini is one of Taiwan’s official allies. Its King Mswati III had come to Taipei last week. President Tsai Ing-wen hosted a lunch for Japanese officials and met with delegations from Canada and Washington. Two weeks ago, leaders of Taiwan feted German parliamentarians. Obviously, the country is working to a plan and trying to reach out to other countries for support.

A mass stabbing incident in Canada left ten people dead and at least 15 others injured

The incident of mass stabbings in the Saskatchewan province of Canada happened in an indigenous community. Ten people lost their lives and at least another 15 were injured. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the attacks took place at a number of locations. The police have identified two suspects and are investigating 13 crime scenes. It seems they were travelling in a black Nissan Rogue. Preliminary investigations tend to indicate that the suspects had targeted some of the victims while others appear to be random attacks. Many of the injured victims moved to hospitals on their own. Ten dead and at least 15 injured after stabbing attacks in Canada, as suspects still at large. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described the incidents as "horrific and heartbreaking." Scott Moe the premier of the province, went to a social media platform and said - he had no words to "adequately describe the pain and loss caused by this senseless violence."

Leaders of the indigenous community of James Smith Cree Nation and others in the nearby village of Weldon feel these attacks might be drug related. The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations represents the 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The federation says -“This is the destruction we face when harmful illegal drugs invade our communities." Incidentally, mass killings are common in the United States across the southern border. These stabbings rank among the deadliest mass killings in the history of modern Canada. The Saskatchewan Health Authority informed that patients were under treatment. Among the dead were a mother-of-two and a 77-year-old man. A neighbor described him as a person who loved his cats and extended his helping hand to others. There were crowds in the area because of a Canadian Football League game that was under way in a nearby venue.

Al-Shabaab eyes malls in London – could carry out Westgate style attacks

#WestgateMall #alshabaab #MallofAmerica #WestfieldMall Terrorist group al-Shabaab has plans to carry out Westgate style in London, the United States and Canada. It has, apparently, released a graphic video calling for such attacks on shopping districts like Oxford Street in London apart from major shopping centers in the United States and Canada as revealed in dailymail.co.uk dated 23 February 2015.
Security officials have taken the threat seriously because the terrorist group has called on Jihadis who are living in the west to target major shopping centers in their home cities. Among possible targets are London's Oxford Street, and the Westfield malls in Stratford and White City.
It may be recalled that the al-Shabaab had laid a siege in 2013 siege on Kenya's Westgate Mall and it resulted in the death of 62 people.
It is a matter of concern that in the video, the terrorist had indicated the GPS co-ordinates for the Westfield shopping centers in Stratford, East London and White City in West London – obviously, tensions are high.
Other possible targets could be the Mall of America in Minnesota or the West Edmonton mall in Canada or in London’s Oxford Street or any of the hundred or so of the Jewish owned Westfield shopping centers.
In view of the threats, the Mall of America is taking 'extra security precautions' and its officials are coordinating and working closely with the FBI and America's Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This mall is the country's largest shopping center, with 40million visitors a year.
