Britain bares its fangs - RAF Tornados bomb ISIS oilfields

#ISIS #syria #BrimstoneMissiles #RAFTornado With MPs voting in favor of airstrike against ISIS, Britain has bared its fangs and RAF Tornados bombed ISIS oilfields in eastern Syria. The first bombing raids against Islamic State (IS) in Syria were carried out after the British MPs voted overwhelmingly for military action.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 3 December 2015.
The action has been confirmed by a spokesman of the Ministry Of Defence - RAF Tornados had returned from their "first offensive operation over Syria and have conducted strikes". Before that, four Tornado GR4s - armed with Paveway IV guided bombs and precision-guided Brimstone missiles - had taken off from Akrotiri base in Cyprus.
The first missions were launched within ah hour of approval granted by MPs who backed airstrikes by a majority of 174. The target chosen was an oilfield held by Islamic State in the east of Syria and choice of the target was to show that Britain meant business. Obviously, a number of targets had been identified in advance and they were waiting for the go ahead if the decision was in the affirmative.
Six typhoon jets from RAF Lossiemouth are expected to head to Cyprus along with more Tornados from RAF Marham in Norfolk.
Incidentally, the British-designed Brimstone missiles are a vital asset because they are able hit targets with remarkable accuracy and limit collateral damage.

Germany agrees to send 1200 soldiers to Syria but will not take part in frontline combat

It is gradually becoming obvious that the threat posed by ISIS is assuming global dimensions and Germany has, now, approved the deployment of 1,200 soldiers to Syria to help fight ISIS. However its soldiers will not engage in any front line combat.
This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 1 December 2015.
Germany's move is in response to France's request to support its operations against the jihadists following the deadly Paris terror attacks in which 130 lives were lost.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has committed to play a symbolic role in the conflict and her troops will undertake only support roles.
The decision requires parliamentary approval but, the bill has been endorsed by ministers and is expected to be passed since Merkel's party enjoying a large majority.
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has indicated to the media that he does not expect Germany to have 1,200 soldiers participating at any one time. Germany's plans are to send reconnaissance aircraft, tanker planes and a warship to the region.
Germany's decision comes on the heels of a crunch vote by British MPs about whether the UK will extend its bombing campaigns to Syria. In case parliament does vote to extend the strikes, Britain will double its fleet of aircraft stationed in Cyprus.
The plans appear to be to send at least two extra Tornado GR4 fighter jets and six Typhoon attack aircraft to RAF Akrotiri within days. They will combine with the eight aircraft already stationed at the base and carrying out missions over Iraq. They will be used to cut off the ‘snake’s head’ of Islamic State by using laser-guided missiles.

Cameron says IS militants are psychopathic killers –RAF Tornado-GR4s to launch airstrikes

British Parliament voted 524 to 43 and granted gave approval for Britain to join the US-led coalition in the Middle East news.sky.com. The vote came after Prime Minister David Cameron said in no uncertain terms that the IS militants nothing but psychopathic terrorists trying to kill the British.
Accordingly, British fighter jets Tornados could begin airstrikes against Islamic State fighters in Iraq in no time since British MPs have overwhelmingly backed such action.
Britain has six Tornado GR4 fighter bombers positioned in Cyprus and are ready to strike northern Iraq – this small number of aircraft would make the UK's military contribution more of less a symbolic gesture.
The planes have been in RAF Akrotiri for the past six weeks and had been carrying out surveillance missions in the Middle East and could begin airstrikes over the weekend.
Defense Minister Michael Fallon has remarked that targets would have to be selected in accordance with the American and international effort that is currently going on in Iraq. Basically, the efforts of the British must fit into the ongoing scheme of things and merge into the day-to-day fighting.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has commented that the US-led airstrikes had already worsened a dire humanitarian crisis in Iraq and Syria.
