Parents of 14-year-old girl arrested for forcing her to live in the woods for eating Pop-Tart

It was certainly not a major crime as such but the parents of the 14-year-old girl of South Carolina took the extreme step to punish her by forcing her to live in the woods – her crime was that he had eaten a Pop-Tart.
This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 7th July 2015.
The couple of Sumter County has been sent to jail after they were arrested for allegedly banishing their daughter to the woods as punishment for eating a Pop-Tart. Each of them have been charged with a single count of unlawful neglect of a child.
It seems their 14-year-old daughter was forced to live in a tent in the woods a quarter-mile from her home in Sumter. She was provided her with a roll of toilet paper, a flashlight, a whistle and a watch. When the girl wanted food, she was to meet someone at a fence on the family property at specific times during the day. Moreover, she was not allowed to enter the house between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
When the police discovered her, the girl had been living in the tent for two days, and was expected to remain there for the remainder of the week. She had been forced to fend for herself during the severe thunderstorms.
The parents are being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center and the child is at present in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
