Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland will set up joint unit for peacekeeping operations

Poland has agreed to set up a joint military unit along with Ukraine and Lithuania to be based in the east of the country and it is understood from the Polish president's office that the new unit will be commanded from Lublin, in eastern Poland news.sky.com.
The proposed brigade will comprise soldiers of Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland who will be located close to their home countries. As per the defense ministry, the project is aimed at creating a unit for peacekeeping operations and could, in future, form the basis to build a NATO battle group.
The US has also come to help out Ukraine – it has pledged $53m in aid to Ukraine, including radar equipment to counter mortar attacks. This includes $46m to bolster Ukraine's security in its conflict with Russian-backed separatists, and another $7m in humanitarian aid.
Of course, this package does not include any type of lethal weaponry that some Republican politicians had wanted the US to provide.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has appealed to US Congress for lethal and non-lethal aid during his visit to Washington because, while blankets, and night-vision goggles are important, one cannot win the war with blankets. He has requested for more military aid beyond the basic equipment such as night-vision goggles which the US has already supplied.

Ukraine PM Arseny Yatseniuk warns about possible battle with Russia

Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk has warned that his country must be ready for battle with Russia in spite of a 12-day ceasefire with Moscow-backed separatists. He has been blunt and has said that Russians cannot be believed and, hence, enacting Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's peace plan did not mean "relaxing the work of the defense and interior ministries" news.sky.com.
He has asked his defense minister to ensure for full battle readiness of his troops.
His call for preparedness cams as Russia's defense minister Sergei Shoigu indicated the deployment of reinforcements to Crimea and southern Russia because it was necessary due to the build-up of "foreign" forces nearby.
Sergei Shoigu has revealed that it was a "priority" to deploy a "full and self-reliant group of troops in the direction of Crimea".
The unrest continues in the region in spite of the truce and a law passed by the Ukrainian parliament that granted greater autonomy to rebel held parts of the east and an amnesty for separatist fighters – the civilian casualties have continued to rise, adding to the estimated 3,000 people killed.

10 Russian soldiers caught in Donetsk - Russia says: they must have crossed the border by mistake

Russia is continuing to insist that it has not sent any military into Ukraine but the fact remains that ten Russian soldiers were found in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine and have been detained edition.cnn.com. The country's Security Service has confirmed this even as tensions simmered over the conflict between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian rebels.
These 10 Russian soldiers were captured with documents and weapons on them and this automatically shows that Russia is not making correct statements – it has repeatedly denied claims by Kiev that it has sent troops and weapons over the border into Ukraine, where the Ukrainian military is fighting pro-Russian rebels.
The explanation offered by Russia's state-run RIA Novosti news agency quoting a source in the Russian Defense Ministry is that the soldiers had been patrolling the border and must have crossed the border by accident at an unmarked point.
This latest development comes as Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, meet for the first time since June in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, for trade talks related to the Eurasian Customs Union. This is a trade bloc made up of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Senior European Union officials, headed by EU foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton, are also present in Minsk for the summit.
