Jens takes the full blame for his son having gone astray and he pours his hear out in his book "My Fault? A Father's Story".
He feels that neglect was the reason for what Anders did and he admits responsibility and regretted not having been there for his son before he committed the ghastly murders.
Incidentally, Jens Breivik is a retired diplomat and lives in France with his fourth wife and has often been described as an authoritarian husband and an absent father. He divorced the mother of Anders a year after his birth and Anders grew up with his mother.
Jens Breivik did make an attempt to get custody of his son when he was four years old, but his request was dismissed in court. Jens regrets that if he had kept more contact with Anders, if he had been a better father, Anders would have become a different person.
Anders Breivik is serving a 21-year prison sentence which can be extended later.
