Seven Iranians face punishment of 91 lashes each for dancing to American pop music

Seven Iranian men and women had been arrested in May for posting a video of themselves dancing to the American pop hit "Happy". However, they were later released after intervention of self-professed "moderate" President Hassan Rouhani foxnews.com.
He had tweeted that the regime should lighten up.
Anyway, the Happy Group was forced to apologize on television and endure a trial in which they were convicted and each of them was sentenced to 91 lashes. One of them was given a full year in prison while the others got six months.
It is understood from their attorney that the sentences were suspended which means it will become null and void after a certain period of time (3-years in this case). As explained by attorney Farshid Rofugaran, in a suspended sentence, the verdict is not carried out, but if during this period a similar offense is committed, then the accused would be subjected to legal punishment and the suspended sentence will then be carried out as well.
This is seen as Iran's latest crackdown on freedom of expression.
Incidentally, the ‘Happy’ video was part of a global campaign that had been launched by pop star Pharrell Williams and had been viewed by over 100,000 people on YouTube. The six Iranians who appeared on the video and a man who shot the footage apologized and revealed that they had been tricked into doing it. After this confession, they had been released on bail.
