Angelina Jolie opens school in London for women victims of atrocities

#angelinajolie #williamhague #warzones #ISIS #sexualviolence Hollywood actress and director Angelia Jolie who is also an international women’s rights campaigner has opened a center in London to take care of women victims who have been ravaged by war and who have seen and experienced violence of the most vicious and brutal order. This has been reported in theguardian.com dated 10 February 2015.
It has been touted as Europe’s first academic center to combat the brutality faced by women in warzones across the globe. On the occasion she had for company former UK foreign secretary William Hague at the London School of Economics (LSE).
This center on women, peace and security aims to boost global campaigns for women’s rights and combat the use of rape as a weapon of war. This was an issue which Jolie – a special envoy for the UN high commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) - has campaigned on throughout the world.
The purpose of this center is to gather key thinkers, activists, policymakers and academics together so that they can put their heads together to work out methods to better tackle intransigent global problems such as the prosecution of warzone rapists and women’s engagement in politics.
For this, Angelina Jolie and the UNHCR have released two powerful short films that narrate the stories of women who have suffered sexual violence at the hands the ISIS militants.
It seems she had filmed these short films when she was on a visit to a Kurdish refugee camp in Dohuk, northern Iraq – this place houses nearly 2.1 million Iraqis who were forced to abandon their homes in 2014 after the invasion of the ISIS.
