Safety of women at stake in Mumbai – three men gang rape a slum dweller

#cottongreen #gangrape #localtrain It is strange that rape of women keep happening and the safety of women traveling alone just cannot be guaranteed by the authorities as reported in zeenews.india.com dated 5 February 2015.
The woman was a 21-year-old and a slum dweller while the three rapists who committed the gang rape worked at a goldsmith’s shop. Incident of rape has been confirmed after medical examination and the three culprits have been arrested by the police.
It seems the woman was on her way to home when the culprits befriended her at the Reay Road railway station. The four of them got up in a local train together and the accused promised to drop her home safe.
However, when they alighted at Cotton Green station, the accused threatened the victim and took her to a truck parking nearby, where they committed the crime. Fortunately, there was a police party patrolling in the area. They heard her cries for help and rescued her. The rapists were arrested from the spot.
As per the police, the accused were not habitual offenders and did not have any past criminal records.
