80 killed and over 100 injured in Nice as truck rams into revelers celebrating Bastille Day


A large truck mowed down hundreds of revelers at Bastille Day celebrations in Nice as the driver of the vehicle drove in a zig-zag fashion at about 70km/h. His intention was to leave behind as many casualties people as possible.
The crowd had gathered at the Place Massena, the city's main square, and fireworks marking Bastille Day, a public holiday in France, had just started when the attack happened at about 10pm local time.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has confirmed 80 people are dead and 18 are in intensive care. He has also confirmed the truck driver is dead and investigation is on to establish if he had any accomplices.

The truck was loaded with grenades and weapons and a 31-year-old French-Tunisian man was driving the truck. Identity papers of a French-Tunisian were found in the vehicle.
French president Francois Hollande has said that "Human rights are denied by fanatics and France is quite clearly their target ... France has been struck on the day of her national holiday, the symbol of liberty."
The lobby of luxury hotel Negresco has been converted into a field hospital.
