Defense Secretary Michael Fallon is expected to make a case for allowing RAF bombers to attack Islamic State targets while insisting that no military action will be taken without a vote in the Commons.
It may be recalled that the Commons had last year given the go-ahead to bombing of militant positions in Iraq last year. However, at the time, MPs were not asked to approve wider action. At that time the situation was different because it was the chemical weapon attack by Syrian president Bashar al Assad that had sparked the previous proposal for airstrikes.
Prime Minister David Cameron is of the opinion that there is a need to crush the ISIL in both Iraq and Syria. There should be a 'full spectrum' response which would mean focusing not just one particular area where the ISIS are, but looking at a whole range of areas and how they are operating.
The main objective is to tackle the growing cut of the ISIS and blunt their cutting edge. The ISIS is an evil that must be eradicated.
