2012 Delhi Nirbhaya gang rape has hit the tourism sector - India’s Finance Minister

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s has said that the 16 December 2012 gang-rape incident of Nirbhaya had cost the India tourism industry loss of millions of dollars zeenews.india.com He has said that one incident of rape in Delhi was enough to cost million dollars in terms of lower number of tourists. He added that we have national responsibility and God has given us everything that tourists wants to see and we need to build upon that positive and ensure of that we take right step.
The statement has severely disappointed Nirbhaya's father who, on Friday, termed the BJP leader's remark as 'irresponsible' and that such statements have deeply disappointed him.
Nirbhaya’s father has further criticized the Union Finance Minister saying that such a statement encourages those who commit such crimes. He questioned the Finance Minister for linking the gruesome incident to the losses incurred by the tourism industry saying that an honest citizen lost her life. Isn’t that a loss to the nation?” he asked.
It may be recalled that the girl, a trainee physiotherapist, was brutally gang-raped inside a moving bus in Delhi by six people on Dec 16, 2012 edition.cnn.com – that led to her suffering grievous injuries that ultimately led to her death.
