Was the EgyptAir crash an act of terrorism by the ISIS?

EgyptAir Flight MS804 has gone missing over the Mediterranean with 66 people on board and there are reports of a merchant ship captain having seen a 'flame in the sky'. Obviously, there are fears that it could be an act of terrorism. The head of France's internal intelligence agency had already warned that France was being 'clearly targeted' by ISIS - and the warning had come a week before the Paris to Cairo flight took off.

An Egyptian civil aviation authority spokesman has revealed that the Airbus A320 with 15 French passengers and one Briton on board has most likely crashed into the sea. The cause of the disaster is not known but it has come seven months after a bomb blew up a Russian airliner over the Sinai desert - it killed all 224 people on board. ISIS has, subsequently, admitted that a soda can bomb had been used to bring down the Metrojet plane.
In this connection, the warnings of Patrick Calvar, the head of France's DGSI agency, are relevant. On 10 May, he had told a parliamentary committee on national defense in Paris that ISIS was planning 'a new form of attack'. France had been targeted twice last year. First it was the Charlie Hebdo attack in January and then the Paris attacks in November. The attack in November killed 130 people and were conducted by suicide bombers and jihadists armed with Kalashnikovs.
He said that a new form of attack was possible because ISIS had suffered military setbacks in Syria and Iraq and wanted to take revenge on members of the coalition, including France because France was behind the air strikes on ISIS targets.

#cairo #egypt #AlHaram #pyramids A bomb attack in Cairo on a road leading to the pyramids has killed nine people - six of them were police officers. It has also injured 10 others. The bomb exploded when a team of officers raided an apartment in the suburb of Giza. It seems the building was booby-trapped and the device went off when the police attempted to defuse it.

Police have blamed the blast in the Al-Haram district on the blacklisted Islamist Muslim Brotherhood movement of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. It seems a group of Muslim Brotherhood members were preparing to carry out aggressive acts in the coming days and would be using explosives and crude bombs and wee making use of an apartment in a Cairo building. The police raided the apartment and discovered a number of crude bombs. However, when the bomb squad expert was dealing with one of the bombs, it went off.
Islamist militants have stepped up attacks on Egyptian soldiers and police since the army toppled Morsi in 2013 which came after mass protests against his rule and the neighborhood of Al-Haram has witnessed a number of attacks and gunfights since the overthrow.
The building housed many of Morsi's sympathizers and used to be a regular venue for clashes between his supporters and security forces in the aftermath of his ouster by then army chief and now President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Moreover, the district also houses hotels that are frequented by tourists who come to visit Cairo, given its proximity to the pyramids.
The explosion came ahead of the anniversary of the 2011 revolution that ousted longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak and security forces have interrogated residents and searched more than 5,000 homes in central Cairo as a 'precautionary measure' in order to prevent street protests on the anniversary.

The police are believed to be looking for two young men who carried out the attack in the Agouza district because they were previously not allowed to enter, it has been reported. The victims were either burned to death or died from smoke inhalation.

The Ministry of Interior has learnt that, as per preliminary investigation, the attack took place after a dispute arose between staff and others, who then threw Molotov cocktails at the entrance. The ensuing fire was extinguished quickly and security authorities are investigating the attack.
The venue of the attack was the El Sayad restaurant. This is not officially labeled as a nightclub but is among Egypt's small eateries that skirt taboos around drinking in this predominantly Muslim country by serving food and alcohol throughout the day and converting into a bar until the early hours of the morning.
Alcohol is legal in Egypt, but most restaurants and clubs do not possess liquor licenses.

The government of Egypt is faced with an Islamist insurgency that is based in Sinai and there is growing discontent with what critics perceive as heavy handed security tactics.,br> The first attack was the bombing of military buildings in the capital of North Sinai province – in this attack, 25 persons were killed and another 58 were injured, 9 of them were civilians. This is as per information provided by the security and medical sources.
Suspected militants then killed an army major and wounded six others at a checkpoint in Rafah.
This was followed by a roadside bomb in Suez city that killed a police officer, and an assault on an army unit south of Al-Arish that wounded four soldiers.
Militants who are based in Sinai have killed hundreds of security officers ever since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood from power as a result of mass protests against his rule.
