Obama may have to rethink his policy of ‘no US boots on the ground in Iraq’

As the sabers are drawn and the US continues its air strikes on ISIS targets in Iraq, doubts are surfacing as to whether President Obama can maintain his policy of ‘no US bots on the ground in Iraq’ nzherald.co.nz.
The President was to meet the American commanders in charge of the campaign against ISIS after the country's top military officer admitted for the first time yesterday that the need could arise of US ground troops to defeat the militants.
This statement has put General Martin Dempsey at odds with the promise of the White House that there will be "no US boots on the ground".
Dempsey has reportedly indicated that US troops could be embedded as advisers with Iraqi forces during missions to retake jihadist-occupied cities or to help guide American jets during complicated air strikes.
The statements of Dempsey would suggest that US forces would be dragged further into a foreign conflict, and is likely to alarm the American public, which is firmly opposed to ground troops returning to the Middle East. President Barack Obama had promised to a war-weary country that the campaign against ISIS "will not involve American combat troops fighting on foreign soil".

New York City remembers 9/11 on its 13th anniversary

On the occasion of marking the 13th anniversary of 9/11 or the bombing of Twin Towers and the World Trade Center in New York City, President Obama spoke solemnly outside the Pentagon, where 184 people lost their lives dailymail.co.uk.
He said that it has now been 13 years since the peace of an American morning was broken; thirteen years since nearly 3,000 beautiful people were taken from us; thirteen years of moments they would have shared with us; thirteen years of memories they would have made.
Incidentally, the ceremonies came just hours after President Obama had announced that he would open a new military front in the Middle East and authorize airstrikes inside Syria along with expanded strikes in Iraq as part of 'a steady, relentless effort' to root out.
The skies over Lower Manhattan lit up in the night with twin beams of blue light honoring the nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11 attacks, thus bringing to a close a somber 13th anniversary of the tragedy marked by tributes, name-reading ceremonies and moments of silence.
Along with the 'Tribute in Light' art installation meant to honor the dead, the newly completed skyscraper known as One World Trade Center shone brightly, towering over the city's scintillating skyline.

ISIS militants behead US journalist James Foley and post video on YouTube

The unnerving news from Iraq speaks of the extent of violence in the country where ISIS militants have beheaded US journalist James Foley and captured it on video edition.cnn.com – the video has been posted on YouTube with a warning to US President Barack Obama to stop military operations in Iraq. If he continues to do so, it would be bad for America and there would be more deaths like that of Foley. It seems the ISIS already have a second victim lined up!!
Foley worked with the US based GlobalPost and disappeared on 22 November 2012 in northwest Syria somewhere near the border with Turkey. It seems he was forced into a vehicle by gunmen and has not been heard of since then.
The video is being investigated by the National Security Council to confirm authenticity of the murder of U.S. citizen James Foley by (ISIS). Incidentally, the beheading video shows a second US journalist. The militant in the video, who speaks English with what sounds like a British accent, says the second American's life hangs in the balance, depending on what Obama does next.
It is understood that this second journalist is Steven Sotloff, a contributor to Time and Foreign Policy magazines – he had been kidnapped at the Syria-Turkey border in 2013.
President Obama was briefed about the video, and a spokesman of the White House has indicated that the President would be receiving regular updates on the issue.
The emergence of ISIS has sent shock waves all over the world – it has carried out executions, including beheadings, as part of its effort to establish an Islamic caliphate that stretches from Syria into Iraq. In many cases, ISIS -- which refers to itself as the Islamic State -- has videotaped the executions and posted them online to instill fear into people. They are ruthless as are their methods.
