Another Bangladeshi blogger killed in Dhaka because of his views on religion

Another Bangladeshi blogger fell to attacks by people who hated him for his views on religion. The group of men armed with machetes killed the secular activist at a crowded intersection in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This has been confirmed by a police official and is the latest in a series of grisly attacks on intellectuals and bloggers who have written critically about Islamists on social media.
This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 8 April 2016.
According to witnesses, a group of clean-shaven men surrounded the 28-year-old law student at the state-run Jagannath University. He hailed from Sylhet, was a convinced atheist and used to express his views on Facebook. At the time of the attack, he was walking on the street and the time was around 8.30pm. The attackers slashed his head and then shot him when he fell to the ground.
The location was Wari, the area of Old Dhaka where the killing took place.
This stabbing was similar to a series of earlier attacks on bloggers that had been carried out last year, often in crowded public places. The leader of al-Qaida's branch in the Indian subcontinent had released a video taking credit for two of the killings in which the victims were labeled as "blasphemers". In October there were fatal attacks on two men who had published the works of atheist writers.

Gunmen abduct foreigners from a Philippine island resort, an American and a Japanese jump to safety

It was a planned kidnapping of two Canadians, including a former mining company executive, a Filipino woman and the Norwegian manager. An American and his Japanese companion also were targeted but they jumped into the waters and escaped. The kidnapping was carried out by a gang of at least 11 men who were armed with pistols. They arrived on a motorboat and entered the Holiday Ocean View Samal Resort on Samal Island off Davao City.
This has been reported in foxnews.com dated 22 September 2015.
The resort complex is located on a southern Philippine island and the kidnapping has sparked an extensive air and sea search by the authorities.
The gunmen tried to seize an American and his Japanese companion who were on one of the yachts docked at the marina, but they resisted and escaped by jumping off the boat suffering minor injuries in their struggle to break free from the kidnappers.
The victims have been identified but no one has claimed responsibility so far. Al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf militants have been active for years in the region. They have resorted to kidnapping in the past and are still holding two Malaysians, and a Dutch bird watcher who had been kidnapped nearly three years ago, apart from a town mayor. They are believed to be held by the militants in their jungle bases in southern Sulu province.

25 killed and 40 injured in terrorist attack by al-Shabaab in Mogadishu

#mogadishu #somalia #alshabaab At least 25 people have been killed and 40 injured is suicide attacks at a hotel in the Somali capital of Mogadishu as reported in foxnews.com dated 21 February 2015.
It seems one Islamic extremist rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the gate of the Central Hotel, while another extremist went in and blew himself up as per a statement from the office of Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke.
There was a meeting of Government officials going on in the Central Hotel at the time, and the deputy Mayor of Mogadishu and two legislators died in the attack. However, it is not clarified as to whether the number of casualties include the two terrorist bombers. Al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab militants have accepted the responsibility for the attack.
This is the second attack on a hotel in Mogadishu in less than a month. In the previous instance, on Jan. 22, three Somali nationals were killed when a suicide car bomber blew himself up at the gate of a hotel that was housing the advance party of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He had later visited Somalia.
Incidentally, in spite of losing key strongholds in Somalia, al-Shabaab continues to stage attacks in the capital and elsewhere.

British Prime Minister warns that Britain is in the sight of ISIS fanatics

British Prime Minister David Cameron is a panic-stricken leader because he feels that Britain is in the sights of ISIS fanatics – accordingly, there would be more armed police to patrol the streets of Britain in order to counter the threat that is posed by the fanatics who are returning from Iraq and Syria dailymail.co.uk.
The Prime Minister has warned that the return of hundreds of murderous extremists posed a major threat to the security of Britain, the threat was greater than that posed by either the al-Qaeda or the IRA. He also cautioned that Islamist terrorists cannot be 'appeased' and needed to be faced down.
His comments came even as Theresa May announced the official terror threat level had been raised to ‘severe’ – the second-highest state – for the first time in three years.
Among the various steps proposed to be introduced are an increase in high-profile police patrols, including the greater use of armed officers, particularly at airports and major railway stations. Moreover, ‘uncompromising’ new laws would be introduced to plug ‘gaps in our armory’ in dealing with the threat posed by Islamic State extremists. These would include enhanced powers to remove the passports of radicalized Muslims who seek to join the fighting in the Middle East. There are also proposals to remove the passports of extremists who have already gone abroad.
